This will be my last post to this blog (at least for the foreseeable future). As you may have read or heard, I moved from Amsterdam to Melbourne, Australia this month. Since my life is no longer based in Amsterdam, I felt it fitting to revamp my Life in Amsterdam blog.

I will continue to blog at www.kathykeating.org, but that site will become An Expat’s Photoblog. I moved all my old posts to this address (www.kathykeating.wordpress.com), so Life in Amsterdam could still have a life of its own on the web.

I loved my six and half years living in Amsterdam, and I’ll always have fond memories of that time. I know I’m going to miss the city and all the great people I met there immeasurably—I already am, and I’ve only been gone two weeks! But I’m also excited for this next chapter in my life.

If you’re interested in following my adventures in Australia, please take a look at the new blog www.kathykeating.org. Regardless, I hope you enjoy these old posts on Amsterdam! Thanks so much for visiting!!

Thanks, everyone, for all your help in cleaning out our apartment!! Our movers came today, so it’s very empty now, but we’re all ready for our move to Australia!

I’ll be updating this site sporadically over the next few weeks, as time and internet access allows, and I’m planning to rename it (seems appropriate) and possibly change it a bit once we get settled.

Thanks so much to all my family and friends for your support!

I love taking photos, and I have taken a number of them around Amsterdam over the past six years. I joined Flickr a few years ago, mainly because, for a small annual fee, they back up all your photos for you, and they’re linked with Yahoo, so I didn’t have to set up another online account. Of course, being able to share them with family, friends and the rest of the world was a nice feature too!

I finally got serious about organizing and labeling (or tagging) them all last year, and I’ve been surprised by how many people have looked at them. I figured that family and friends would take the obligatory look around, but I’ve noticed that I also get a number of people viewing my photos because they’re searching for something that matches one of my tags, like Amsterdam or Barcelona.

Of course, as soon as I blogged about cold weather and ice skating in the Netherlands, it started getting warmer the very next day. It’s mostly stayed above freezing since then, so I think the hopes of many for the 11 Cities Tour have been dashed for the moment. But who knows? Maybe we’ll have another cold streak next month.

This weekend was a rather gray and rainy one—much closer to the typical Dutch winter weather we’ve come to know, yet not quite love. It was a great weekend for staying in and reading books and watching movies though. I flew through New Moon, Stephenie Meyer’s second book in the Twilight series. I enjoyed it, and it was certainly another page-turner, but I didn’t think it was as good as the first book. Jim read Barry Eisler’s The Last Assassin, which he really liked. Apparently, it’s the fifth in a series of action novels. (I haven’t read any of them.) I also watched The Lake House, which is an enjoyable but kind of cheesy Sandra Bullock-Keanu Reeves movie.

I also worked on my other two blogs, Amsterdam in Photos and TechKathy.com, a bit. When I started out blogging in November, I got really excited and had lots of ideas about what I wanted to do. Now that I’m three blogs in, I’m realizing that they’re actually a lot of work, so I think three blogs is it for me. I still have quite a few ideas for new site designs, and I’m toying with the idea of creating my own WordPress design from scratch, but I think that’s a project for later on down the road.

Thanks very much for visiting my blog. As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been thinking about creating a photoblog for a while now. Since then, I decided to use one of my personal URLs, www.kathykeating.org, for that purpose. If you’d like to see some of my Amsterdam photos, please visit my photoblog, which I’ve titled Photos of Amsterdam, at www.kathykeating.org. Thanks!

I read a great piece this morning about incorporating Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) into your daily life to improve your overall quality of life from NLP Comprehensive. I don’t know much about NLP, but I find it fascinating. Most of these tips are just common sense things, but I often forget them, so it was nice to get a reminder today. In a nutshell, here are the “12 Laws of Life” that Tom Hoobyar laid out in his article:

  1. Self-management and people skills are the keys to your success and happiness.
  2. You are at the center of your universe. Stay there!
  3. What you think about most is what you get.
  4. You make your habits and then your habits make you.
  5. Guilt enslaves you. Responsibility liberates you.
  6. “Obligations” are a fraud.
  7. (more…)

It’s been over a week since I posted last, and I’m sorry for that. Although I haven’t publicized this blog much, so I’d be surprised if anyone had been anxiously awaiting my next post!

It’s mid-December now, which is a pretty busy time for many people. My husband Jim and I are going to spend Christmas in Berlin this year, and I’ve been trying to do all the things and run all the errands I’m supposed to before we leave, plus work on my other website which was hacked into last week (for more on that, surf over to www.techkathy.com).
